Slide Brook with Umbrellas

This morning we headed out the door mid morning to check out the Presby Transportation Museum and Tractor Fair.

Since we were in the Pondicherry area, we decided to go for a short walk on the Slide Brook Trail to check out the beaver pond. There are two spots to park – either at Owls Head parking (Rt 115) or off of Rt 115A. We parked in the latter. Armed with umbrellas, we started along the bike path towards Cherry Pond.

It started to pour as we walked and we all enjoyed our dry umbrella shielded spaces. The group of folks that passed us heading back to the parking lot were jealous of our set up.

The Slide Brook Trail turns left just before the bridge. But don’t miss the amazing wetland views from this bridge.

The Slide Brook Trail immediately changes your landscape view to a pleasant wooded trail.  Bog bridging carried us over the wet areas.

At the beaver pond, the trail brought us up on top of the beaver dam. In some places we walked on bog bridges and then stepped off onto a beaver made walkway. The water was high and we surmised the beaver had dams further down the wetland slough.

At the end of the wetland section, you can walk through a field to Route 115. We turned around here though and retraced our steps.

We dodged and swatted the mosquitoes as we made our way back to the car. Several other groups of bike riders and a horse rider were also out on the trail, despite the rain shower forecast. We love hiking in the rain – especially when we have our umbrellas!
